Care Guide
Our jewellery is hand-crafted in the finest materials and built to last. While we wish this meant indestructible, there are some things you can do to keep your jewellery safe and looking its best. Please read our Care Guide for more information on how to care for your precious jewels.
General Advice
- Rule no.1 is “if in doubt, take it off”.
- During activities where your jewellery may be damaged, take it off and store it safely, this goes for activities such as the gym, rock climbing, swimming, spa, gardening, etc. A nice soft pouch is perfect to carry around with you.
- We recommend showering and applying lotions and perfumes before putting on your jewellery, this is to reduce build up of product on your jewellery and keep any sensitive gemstones safe- such as pearls.
- It is advised not to sleep in your jewellery
- It is vital that you keep your jewellery away from chemicals- particularly chlorine. Chlorine can eat away at precious metals, even solid gold which can cause irreversible damage. Remove your jewellery when in chlorine treated water and when cleaning.
- Diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring substance on earth, but they can still fracture and be scratched by other diamonds. Store your jewellery separately to avoid them damaging each other.
- We know there are certain pieces you will wear everyday, so you can expect these pieces to wear more than pieces you wear on occasion. We recommend choosing solid gold or platinum and a hard gemstone such as diamond, sapphire and ruby for these pieces.
Cleaning your jewellery
- For nearly all jewellery, including those with coloured gemstones and diamonds, cleaning with warm water, a couple of drops of washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush will be more than adequate.
- Soft gemstones, like opal, pearl, moonstone and turquoise should never be cleaned with an ultrasonic or steam cleaners. Heavily included gemstones, like salt and pepper diamonds and emeralds should also not be cleaned this way.
Follow these steps:
- Add a few drops of washing-up liquid to a lukewarm bowl of water. Extreme temperature changes may damage the jewellery, so avoid hot or ice-cold water.
- Soak the jewellery for ten minutes to loosen any build-up of dirt.
- Gently clean with a soft-bristled brush such as an unused toothbrush.
- Make sure to clean the whole piece of jewellery and get into hard to reach places while being extra careful when cleaning fragile parts of the jewellery (for example, at a stone's setting).
- Rinse thoroughly in clean water to remove soap residue and any other remnants of dirt.
- Dry gently with a lint-free cloth or leave on a cloth to air dry.
- You can gently use a polishing cloth to the metal to add shine.
Storing
- Make sure to store your jewellery individually in something soft lined, to avoid your pieces scratching each other.
- Make sure your jewellery is completely dry before storing.
Check in with your jewellery
We are here for you if you notice any damage to your jewellery, we can check over your special pieces and assess any precautions we may need to take. Please contact us if you notice any of the following:
- Any worn down, damaged or missing claws on settings.
- Any loose stones in their setting (any that are spinning or rocking)
- Any loose catches and clasps or rough links on chains or bracelets
- Any cracking appearing in metals
- Any changes to the movement, where you have moving parts such as hinges or attachments.
- Finally, if a ring is too tight or too loose, it can generally be re-sized to fit. If your ring is too loose it is more likely to spin round to your palm and any gemstones in the ring can be damaged.
